Welcome to digitalnoise|photo,  I’m your host, Lou Wheeler.  And by host, I mean not a host, but the person to whom this site belongs to.

I’m a photographer, musician, and general webgeek from Sacramento, California.  I have a dayjob which is a lot like photography, except in the fact that it’s nothing like photography, and a little more like tech support for a school information system web application.  Maybe one day photography will actually be a day job, but who knows at that point.

If it was, however, I’d probably have a much better website, and hire someone to write my About page for me instead of rambling on about nonsense.  Or, I’d just do it myself regardless and “keep it real”.  It’s a mystery, isn’t it?

I photograph random things.  I don’t have a specific set of subjects, just whatever I find in front of the lens that also doesn’t suck.  Or sometimes it does, and it’s just awesome that way.  I do, however, have a predisposition to shoot music, concert, and band-related photography.  I also do enjoy shooting people.  If you’re interested in that, you should probably contact me.

Gear/tools:

  • Canon 20D
  • Canon 50mm f/1.8
  • Canon 70-210mm f/4
  • Cactus v4 wireless flash trigger set
  • Phoenix D92-BZS flash unit (off-camera strobist uses)
  • Minolta Auto 118X flash (I’ve had this for a while, but have now started using it strobist-style, it’s more powerful than the Phoenix)
  • Vivitar 285 flash (just got this one, wow does this thing throw some light!)
  • Sunpak DigiFlash 2800 (the only eTTL flash I’ve got.  Sadly, didn’t realize this won’t fire with my Cactus, and there’s no sync port. Boo, Sunpak, boo!)
  • Polaris light meter
  • Strobist Collection by Roscoe gel pack
  • Westcott 36″ (I think) convertible umbrella
  • Giotto LC325 air-cushioned lightstand
  • CaseLogic hammock backpack
  • 16GB Kingston CF card
  • Lumiquest SoftFlash diffuser
  • Picasa3 (importing, organizing, workflow)
  • Lightroom 2 (Importing, cataloging, organizing, and about 98% of my editing, exporting)
  • LR2/Mogrify for exporting with borders and watermark from Lightroom
  • Photoshop CS4 (in-depth editing, reconstruction, compositing)
  • Faststone Photo Resizer (resizing for web, borders and watermarks) Don’t use it much, but still love this app!!
  • Wordpress (what you’re staring at)
  • Toshiba Satellite 17″ laptop, with the crappy Intel Celeron processor.  3GB RAM.  It’ll do until I can get a MacBook Pro
